http://www.agencedlefebvre.com/christinetassanetlesimposteures-en With close to 15 years of bringing their special blend of Gypsy jazz and revisited cover songs to audiences, Christine Tassan et les Imposteures have made a name for themselves on the music scene. The new show from this group of four exquisitely talented musicians brings together some of the best work by Félix Leclerc and Django Reinhardt. This crafty double tribute recalls the meeting between the Québec singer-songwriter and the Gypsy guitarist in a Saint-Germain-des-Prés hotel in Paris, in 1950. If the two really did meet, the rest is the product of the intensely creative imagination of the quartet. With a singular mix of virtuosity, daring and humour, the four-woman string band draws inspiration from one artist’s poetry and the other’s swing, to weave a rich new musical universe, an ode to freedom and creativity. It is, of course, a fantastic tribute to a pair of great artists who, on their respective continents, had such a lasting impact on their time and their culture.
“Christine Tassan defied gypsy-jazz conventions.” “Despite the name of her quartet—Les Imposteures—Christine Tassan adds a special authenticity to the April in Paris festival in Vancouver this weekend.”
“Their stage act is full of spirit, humour and camaraderie and they readily engage the audience, often venturing into the crowd while playing, making for a very down to earth but uplifting musical experience.” Showcase Artist: Pacific Contact 2014 Home Base: Quebec |
